

The exterior of the venue
(BEIJING, March 24) -- The venue for the judo and taekwondo events of the Beijing Olympic Games is expected to be completed in late August, according to information from Beijing University of Science and Technology.
The gymnasium, to be built within the university compound, is under intensive construction. Workers are installing metal roof, curtain walls, lifts, fire extinguishers as well as water and electricity equipment.
A technological highlight of the project is its solar lighting system. A total of 148 photoconductive tubes, each in a diameter of 530mm, will be installed to ensure healthy and energy-saving lighting.
With as capacity of 8,012 seats, the venue will also be used for Paralympic wheelchair basketball and rugby events.
