First 8 for women's -67 and men's -80 quarters

(Beijing, February 28) On February 28, the third day of the "Good Luck Beijing" 2008 Taekwondo International Invitational Tournament, the preliminaries of both the women's -67kg and the men's -80kg events were completed in the morning, sending the first eight in each event to the quarterfinals scheduled for this afternoon.

In the women's -67kg event, Lie Kylborn (SWE) beat Seham Elsawalhy (EGY) 4-3; Tina Morgan (AUS) whitewashed Yoriko Okamoto (JPN) 7-0; Edna Diaz (MEX) edged Kirstie Elaine Alora (PHI) 3-2; and Gwladys Epangue (FRA) defeated Z. Cigdem Gencay (TUR) by three points; Karine Sergerie (CAN) outdid Guo Yunfei (CHN) 3-1; Liu Jing (CHN) overpowered Asuncion Ocasio (PUR) 4-0. At the same time, Si Hui (CHN) evened with Hwang Kyung Seon (KOR) 3-3 and was awarded the win by the judges based on her superiority shown throughout the contest. Moreover, as her Mexican opponent pulled out of the match China's Li Na automatically qualified for the next round.

In the men's 80kg preliminaries, Ali Sari (TUR) outscored Sun Yuheng (CHN) 4-3; Zhu Guo (CHN) edged Danny Miranda of Venezuela 5-4; Pan Dongdong (CHN) downed Alexander Briones (PHI) 5-1; and Balazs Toth (HUN) trounced Sun Chao (CHN) 8-5; Juan Sancgez (PUR) beat John Paul Trouillet (FRA) 6-3; Abdalrhman Osama (EGY) won over Hu Shuangjiang (CHN) by one point; Carlo Molfetta (ITA) humbled Ta La (CHN) 4-1. Moreover, as Tijani Montari (GHA) dropped out of the contest Sebastien Michaud (CAN) advanced to the next phase without fighting.
