China's Si, Liu make the women's -67kg semis

(Beijing, February 28) China's Si Hui and Liu Jing beat their respective rivals in the women's -67kg quarterfinals of the "Good Luck Beijing" 2008 Taekwondo International Invitational Tournament held at the Beijing Science and Technology University Gymnasium this afternoon.

In the quarterfinal between China's Li Na and her compatriot Si Hui, Si gained an early lead of 2-0 after the first round. Si extended the gap to 6-0 in the second and scored the match point in the third for a 7-0 success.

The second quarterfinal was staged between Lie Kylborn of Sweden and Tina Morgan of Australia with the two being tied from 0-0 to 1 all after the first two rounds. The third round saw the Australian quickening her pace to attack for the ensuing 3-1 victory.

Canadian Karine Sergerie led 1-0 after the first round against Mexican Edna Diaz. Sergerie consolidated her lead in the second with a result of 2-0. In the third, the Mexican tried hard to fight back, but still fell to Sergerie 4-2.

The last quarterfinal was between China's Liu Jing and Gwladys Epangue of France. Liu came from one point behind to keep ahead 2-1 after the second round and did not look back to take the 4-1 victory.
