Women's +67kg semifinalists unveiled

(Beijing February 29) On the last day of the "Good Luck Beijing" 2008 Taekwondo International Invitational Tournament, the women's +67kg semifinalists were unveiled after the four quarterfinals contested this afternoon.

In the first women's +67kg quarterfinal between Noha Safwat of Egypt and Camen Marton of Australia, the first round ended with a tie of 0-0. In the second round, Marton set up a 1-0 lead but Safwat leveled the score 1-1 in a counterattack. In the third round, both fighters strengthened their attacks with Marton registering a narrow 3-2 win over Safwat to advance to the semifinals.

China's Yang Ping took on teammate Liu Wenyuan in the second quarterfinal, where as they were well-matched in strength, the score was leveled at 1-1, 3-3 and 4-4 after the first two rounds. After tying with her opponent twice more in the decisive third round, Liu Wenyuan eventually managed to edge Yang 7-6 to earn a berth in the next round.

The third quarterfinal turned out to be a 7-0 win by Jordan's Dawani Nadin over Spain's Sonia Reyes Saez. Nadin displayed her overwhelming superiority throughout the contest and sealed the victory in the middle of the third round.

The fourth quarterfinal match saw China's Han Yingying being pitted against Tunisia's Khaoula Ben Hamza. Ben Hamza broke the deadlock to lead 1-0 towards the end of the first round and extended her lead to 2-0 with fierce attacks in the second. In the critical third round, Han, after being knocked down by her Tunisian opponent, lost the match 3-2.
