
(Beijing, February 29) With the conclusion of the women's +67kg and men's +80kg semifinals of the "Good Luck Beijing" 2008 Taekwondo International Invitational Tournament this afternoon, China's Liu Wenyuan and Tunisia's Khaoula Ben Hamza best their respective opponents to enter the finals. On the men's side, the two final berths went to Chinese athlete Yang Fuchao and Frenchman Pascal Gentil.
In her semifinal encounter with Australia's Camen Marton, Liu Wenyuan lost one point in each of the first two rounds. However, she managed to come from behind to tie the score at 2-2 in the third. In the following sudden death round, the young Chinese athlete seized the opportunity to score first and clinched the match 3-2.
In the other semifinal contest between Tunisia's Khaoula Ben Hamza and Jordan's Dawani Nadin, Ben Hamza edged her Jordanese opponent 4-3 to enter the final.
In the first men's +80kg semifinal between China's Zheng Yi and Yang Fuchao, the latter outscored his teammate 3-2 to advance.
Frenchman Pascal Gentil put up an excellent performance against Spainiad Mikel Bernal Fernandez in the other semifinal. As a result, the French veteran made the finals by whitewashing his Spanish rival 8-0.
