

(Beijing, February 29) French veteran Pascal Gentil maintained supremacy in the men's +80kg event of the "Good Luck Beijing" 2008 Taekwondo International Invitational Tournament by winning the gold medal match against China's Yang Fuchao. The women's +67kg gold went to Tunisia's Khaoula Ben Hamza.
In the men's +80kg final between Pascal Gentil and Yang Fuchao, the Frenchman found his form early to lead 1-0 in the first round and 2-1 in the middle of the second round. Gentil had 1 point deducted for foul, but soon regained his advantage in the final round, taking the gold with a result of 2-1. China's Yang settled for second.
In the bronze deciders, China's Wang Lin rallied from behind to beat Spaniard Mikel Bernal Fernandez 5-3 to share the third place with another Chinese Liu Xiaobo, who prevailed without fighting due to teammate Zheng Yi's withdrawal.
On the women's side, the +67kg final was presented by China's Liu Wenyuan and her Tunisian counterpart Khaoula Ben Hamza. Neither side had scored in the first round before Ben Hamza hit one and set up a two-point advantage as Wang handed one-point deduction in the second round. The Chinese failed to score in the final round, having to be content with a silver of the event.
China's Yang Ping and Australian Carmen Marton shared the bronze medal after beating their opponents 2-1 respectively in the third place deciders.
The four-day tournament concluded today as host China finished with two golds, four silvers and ten bronzes.
